Weekly Hail Mary: Week 13
Each week of the football season, HMF will provide you with at least one “Hail Mary” at RB, WR, and TE - a guy who is not generally regarded as a starter for the week, but who has the potential to pay off big. These are the guys you look to when you’re in dire straits and have nowhere else to turn. They are lottery tickets that are not likely to hit, but if they do, you’ll be thrilled, as you can likely grab them for free off your waiver wire. We only focus on players who are available in at least two-thirds of Yahoo! leagues.
Since the regular season for most leagues ends in Week 13, we have arrived at our final column of the season. To those of you who have a shot at the playoffs, Congratulations! I hope we have been some small help along your journey. And if you’re still a long shot to get in, well, we’re here to help. Here are the Hail Marys for Week 13:
Running Backs
Rashaad Penny, Seahawks (20% owned). The former first rounder is finally living up to his pedigree. With Chris Carson’s fumbling issues landing him in Pete Carroll’s doghouse, it looks like Penny could get some more run the rest of the way. In Week 12, he had over 100 yards rushing and a score against a very tough Eagles run defense. Be warned, though: 3 of Seattle’s five remaining opponents are in the top third of the league in rush defense (MIN, LAR, SF).
Benny Snell, Steelers (5%). For as long as James Conner is out, Snell is the PIttsburgh back to own. On Sunday against the Bengals (horrid) defense, he totaled over 100 yards from scrimmage.
Wide Receivers
A.J. Brown, Titans (16%). By now a HMF All-Star, Brown continues to produce with Ryan Tannehill under center. This past week, he had over 130 yards receiving and a score.
Darius Slayton, Giants (25%). Even against the fearsome Bears defense, he had 60+ yards receiving. This rookie has 5 touchdowns already, and he may be the primary receiving threat if Golden Tate misses the Week 13 game against the Packers.
Tight End
Jack Doyle, Colts (33%). He qualifies for our list, but just barely. With Eric Ebron headed to injured reserve, Doyle is suddenly a target-hog for the Colts. Expect low-end TE1 value, especially with T.Y. Hilton still hobbled and no other accomplished pass-catchers on the roster.
And that’s it for your Weekly Hail Marys for the 2019 season, folks! Thanks for reading. If you like our content, please share it with your friends.
