Weekly Hail Mary: Week 11
Each week of the football season, HMF will provide you with at least one “Hail Mary” at RB, WR, and TE - a guy who is not generally regarded as a starter for the week, but who has the potential to pay off big. These are the guys you look to when you’re in dire straits and have nowhere else to turn. They are lottery tickets that are not likely to hit, but if they do, you’ll be thrilled, as you can likely grab them for free off your waiver wire. We only focus on players who are available in at least two-thirds of Yahoo! leagues.
At this point in the season, the pickings are getting slimmer, and the recommendations more succinct. The Hail Marys for Week 11:
Running Backs
Brian Hill, Falcons (4%). This is more of a volume play than anything. But Devonta Freeman is ailing, so Hill may be the lead back in the Falcons offense. He had 20 carries on Sunday, but he didn’t do much with them.
J.D. McKissic, Lions (21%). A HMF play in back-to-back weeks! In Week 10, he had 10 rushes and 7 targets. That type of volume can be useful in a flex-type way.
Wide Receiver
Kenny Stills, Texans (26%). He still hasn’t quite had a “blow up” game in his Will Fuller role with the Texans, but it’s coming. You’ll want to roster him before the blow up comes. [Editor’s note: After the writing of this article, it was announced that Will Fuller may return this week.]
(Note: Darius Slayton, Giants (10%) would have been the recommended pickup for this week but for the team’s bye. He has five touchdowns on the year, including 10 for 121 and 2 scores in Week 10.)
Tight End
Dallas Goedert, Eagles (17%). Surprising exactly no one, Dallas Goedert makes the list again. Goedert is coming off of a bye, so some teams in your league may have dropped him or forgotten about him, but he continues to be a relevant cog in the Eagles’ offense. He is averaging four catches per game over his past four games, with touchdowns in half of them. With DeSean Jackson on the shelf yet again, and the Eagles lacking viable receiving threats outside of Alshon Jeffery and Zach Ertz, Goedert should continue to receive a useful workload.
