Weekly Hail Mary: Week 15

Each week, HMF will provide you with at least one “Hail Mary” at RB, WR, and TE - a guy who is not generally regarded as a starter for the week, but who has the potential to pay off big. These are lottery tickets that are not likely to hit, but if they do, you’ll be thrilled, as you can likely grab them for free off your waiver wire. We only focus on players who are available in at least one-third of Yahoo! leagues.

In other words, if you’re desperate, we’re giving you a prayer. The Hail Marys for Week 15:

Running Backs

CJ Anderson, Raiders (8% owned). He was inactive last week, so this is a HUGE gamble. But he’s playing the Bengals this week, who are the worst defense in the league against opposing running backs. Classic HMF pick - high risk, high reward. [Editor’s Note: Anderson was cut by the Raiders on Tuesday after the publication of this article.]

mFrank Gore, Dolphins (27%). If you haven’t bought by now, you’re not buying. His ceiling is low, but his floor is high. Over 100 yards from scrimmage this past week.

Chris Ivory, Bills (4%). If LeSean McCoy misses time, Ivory should carry the load against the Lions, who are a favorable matchup for opposing running backs.

Damien Williams, Chiefs (17%). After two touchdowns against the Ravens, he needs to be on your radar. He had 13 touches in this one.

Wide Receivers

Robby Anderson, Jets (21%). He’s finally producing again. As a guy who was drafted in the WR3/4 range, and only dropped when he got hurt, you could certainly do worse.

DaeSean Hamilton, Broncos (16%). With Emmanuel Sanders suffering a season-ending injury, Hamilton should get an opportunity. He caught 7 of 9 targets and had a touchdown on Sunday.

Kenny Stills, Dolphins (31%). Touchdowns in back to back weeks and targets have been increasing. The Dolphins are still in the thick of the wild card chase, so he has something to play for.

Tight Ends

Gerald Everett, Rams (21%). Tight end is rough this year. If you’re throwing a dart, throw it at one of the best offenses in the league. He saw 7 targets on Sunday.

Ian Thomas, Panthers (8%). He caught 9 of 11 targets for 77 yards against the Browns on Sunday. He has a tougher matchup with the Saints this Sunday, but the targets are encouraging.
